Healthy Hazelnut Spread (Better Than Nutella!)
Healthier and tastier than the store bought crap!
Who doesn’t love Nutella?
I mean c’mon…
Sweet, chocolaty, hazelnutty spread that goes good on just about anything!
The problem is Nutella, and any generic version of, is a torpedo for your health. The #1 ingredient is sugar. And if you know anything about ingredient labels, the ingredients are listed in order of most present, starting with the first ingredient.
But it’s not all doom and gloom my dear friend!
You don’t have to give up on this delicious spread or topping!
I created this healthy alternative that uses just 5 simple ingredients that you can make in less than an hour at home. Plus it’s more nutritious and healthier for you than the brand crap that does nothing for you except contribute to chronic illness and obesity.

Just like most of my recipes, the measurements are approximate amounts. Adjust to your taste or consistency preference.
Ingredients:
2 cups hazelnuts
3 Tbs maple syrup
2 Tbs 100% unsweetened cacao powder
Pinch of kosher or sea salt
1/3c coconut oil or other flavorless oil such as avocado oil
Method
Preheat your oven to 350°F (176.667°C)
Place hazelnuts on a baking sheet and roast 10 to 12 minutes
Let nuts cool
Using a towel or a couple of sheets of paper towel rub nuts together in small batches in the towel to remove as much of the skins as possible
Add all ingredients except the oil to a high powered food processor
Blend the ingredients, slowly adding the oil in batches
You’ll need to scrape the sides of the processor bowl several times to ensure ingredients are blended well
Continue adding oil in small batches until desired consistency is achieved
Keep in mind that you’ll need to do this several times over 5 minutes or so, or until it’s all blended smoothly
If you want it sweeter add more maple syrup or even coconut sugar

This will stay good in a sealed glass container for up to a week, no need to refrigerate.
This recipe works because it’s low in sugar compared to Nutella, which is about 21g of sugar in two tablespoons! It also contains healthy fats from the hazelnuts and avocado oil. Palm Oil, which is the second ingredient in Nutella, is an inflammation causing powerhouse and is detrimental to your health.
But most importantly my version tastes delicious!
